Greenwood, 18, is in hot water for a second time in the space of a week after pictures emerged of him inhaling nitrous oxide - or "party gas".

The latest storm came just days after he was sent home from the England camp for breaching coronavirus quarantine rules.

United told him to train on his own for a few days on his return despite the fact his Covid test had come back clear.

However he was due to return to the fold on Monday with Solskjaer set to reassemble his full squad.

And another issue with Greenwood is the last thing the Red Devils boss wanted as he turns his attention to Saturday’s visit of Crystal Palace.

United were not planning to discipline him over what happened in Reykjavik – despite the club’s disappointment in him.

But Solskjaer must now decide how to handle the latest incident – which is believed to have taken place around three weeks ago.

The Norwegian would ideally want Greenwood in his plans – particularly with the move for Jadon Sancho still in limbo.

However he will want to see whether the youngster is in the right frame of mind and condition to feature.

Solskjaer revealed at the weekend he is hoping to have a much stronger squad available than the one who lost a friendly at Aston Villa on Saturday.

He said: “We expect more of them to be match fit by then. We’ll get a few more back.

“The international players who didn’t travel on Saturday have had the minutes they needed.”

Luke Shaw

Full-back Luke Shaw – who returned from a two month injury lay off at the weekend - admits they do not have long to try to get upto speed for the visit of the Eagles.

He said: “We’ve got a lot of world class players coming back so we’re looking forward to getting back together on Monday.

“We’ve had a lot of players out but hopefully we’ll be ready for Palace.

“We need to be strong this season and focus on winning trophies, not getting into the top four, because a club like us should be winning trophies.”
