Jose Mourinho desperate for £28m Breel Embolo transfer as Manchester United boss looks to strengthen up front
Switzerland international and Basel ace is being chased by Old Trafford chiefs ahead of the 2016-17 Premier League season
JOSE MOURINHO is desperate to land Swiss ace Breel Embolo, according to reports.
The 19-year-old Basel striker is a £28million target for Manchester United.
Reports in Switzerland last Thursday claimed contact has been made between the Cameroon-born star's representatives and Old Trafford chiefs.
German outlet now claims Mourinho will pull out all the stops to land the highly-rated youngster.
Embolo could reportedly earn almost £4m a year in wages - or £76,000 a week - at United.
But the Red Devils face competition from Stoke, who want Embolo to link up with international team-mate Xherdan Shaqiri at the newly-christened Bet365 Stadium.
Mourinho hopes his established relationship with Basel will put United in favour to land the forward's signature.
Breel Embolo strengths
The Basel striker is quick, powerful and composed in front of goal.
At 19-years-old, he is already a physical presence and a handful for defenders.
Embolo is a skilful dribbler and has already looked threatening in both Euro 2016 games for Switzerland. The forward played 28 minutes against Albania and 26 against Romania.
He plays well with his back to goal and can link up well with supporting midfielders.
The Special One brought Mohamed Salah from the Swiss giants to Chelsea in January 2014 for £11m.
Embolo scored 13 goals last campaign for club and country.
The hitman once admitted controversial Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli - currently on loan at AC Milan - is one of his footballing heroes.
He is composed in front of goal and has a physical presence which could trouble defenders in the Premier League.
