Vale of Glamorgan officially changes its name in honour of Gareth Bale and his Euro 2016 group-topping Wales team

County council changes its name to BALE of Glamorgan for one day only in wishing their team luck for Russia clash

A WELSH county council is so proud of their nation's heroics at this summer's European Championships, its has  taken the bizarre step of renaming itself after national hero  Gareth Bale.

Chris Coleman's Wales team followed up their 2-1 win over Slovakia and 2-1 loss against England with a 3-0 thumping of Russia to famously top Group B.

And a certain Real Madrid winger has netted in all three of those encounters to become the nation's top scorer at a major tournament ever.

The former Tottenham man's heroics have prompted the Vale of Glamorgan to change its name to the BALE of Glamorgan.

 

Vale Council tweeted an edited version of their road sign, along with the caption: "For one night only we are the BALE of Glamorgan!

"Good luck Wales in tonight's Euro 2016 match #TogetherStronger"

The moved proved popular with the locals, who replied jubilantly on Twitter.

One user wrote: “Nice touch by my home county.”

It's not the first time a local Welsh council has named their are after Bale.

Officials in the town of Bala, renamed the town Bale, with local councillor Dilwyn Morgan said it was a 'brilliant idea'.

Morgan said: “It’s a brilliant idea and a great way to honour Gareth Bale and get behind the Welsh squad for Euro 2016.

“Gareth Bale is an international sporting star, and this move should put Bala, sorry, Bale, on the international map.”
