Rooney suffered an ankle injury earlier this season with Manchester United and has been plagued by ankle problems throughout his career.

The striker-turned-midfielder has become a crucial player for the Three Lions at 2016 but the sight of him in strapping sparked fears he could be out of the last-16 clash against Iceland on Monday.

However, Rooney appears to be fighting fit again after leaving England’s team hotel in Chantilly bandage-free.

The captain looked in good spirits despite keeping his teammates waiting on the bus for 10 minutes as Roy Hodgson’s men make preparations for their knockout stage match in Nice.

But things are never simple where England are concerned, and the sight of Adam Lallana with his right foot heavily bandaged up could mean he's a doubt for the match against Iceland.

The Liverpool ace has been in good form for Hodgson's side, although he is yet to break his international duck.

If Lallana is to miss the match, Reds teammate Daniel Sturridge could be given a chance to impress on the right wing.

England fans will be confident of progression to the quarter-finals, but Rooney and Co. face a tough slog to reach the final in Paris.

However, stars including Jamie Vardy and Jack Wilshere looked to be in good spirits as they headed for another training session.

And after remaining unbeaten in the group stages, England are sure to fancy their chances against the likes of France, Italy and Germany if they can get past Iceland.
