Raheem Sterling: New Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has called player to help him through Euro 2016 nightmare

England flop has received a phone call from Guardiola after criticism of his performances from many supporters.

PEP GUARDIOLA put a call into Raheem Sterling to help him through his Euros nightmare.

Manchester City’s incoming manager phoned the England flop after criticism of his performances from many angry Three Lions supporters.

Sterling’s spirits have been lifted by the surprise call ahead of England’s second- round clash with Iceland on Monday.

A source close to Guardiola said: “Pep knows he’s having a tough time.

“He called Raheem to say, ‘As long as you work for me I will fight for you. Keep your head up, you are a good player and a big part of my plans’.”

Winger Sterling, 21, took to Instagram after the 1-1 draw with Russia to call himself ‘The Hated One’.

And after a bad miss in the 2-1 win against Wales, some fans even opened a JustGiving page to ask for donations to bring Sterling home.

But Guardiola sees Sterling as a key part of his side next season and is determined to get the best out of him.
