Tottenham new-boy Victor Wanyama sets sights on silverware after sealing £11.5million move
Kenyan star dreaming of trophies after being reunited with Spurs' former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino
VICTOR WANYAMA wants to become Victor WINyama – after targeting trophies with Tottenham.
The Spurs new-boy already has his sights set on silverware after sealing his £11.5million switch from Southampton on Thursday.
The North Londoners have not won a trophy since the League Cup in 2008.
And you have to go back 55 years for the last time they were crowned top-flight champions in 1961.
But Wanyama insisted: “Nothing is impossible if you work hard. If we can achieve winning the Premier League then that would be my dream.
“That’s my target, to win the Premier League or any trophy with the club.”
Wanyama, 25 today, is Tottenham’s first buy of the summer.
The move sees the Kenyan star link up again with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who was in charge of Southampton when they signed him from Celtic in July 2013 for £12.5m.
“Nothing is impossible if you work hard. If we can achieve winning the Premier League then that would be my dream. That’s my target."
Victor Wanyama
Poch tried to bring Wanyama to White Hart Lane last summer but Saints refused to sell.
He was successful this time, though, as the South Coast club decided to cash in on the midfielder – who had only a year remaining on his St Mary’s contract – rather than risk him leaving on a free at the end of the season.
Wanyama said: “It feels really good to be here and I’m really happy to get this chance. It’s a good step for me and I think this is where I can achieve bigger things now.
“You can see the talent here and also you can see the manager. I think Spurs have made a giant step.
“They’ve always improved since the manager arrived here and I think the club can only get better, so hopefully there are good things ahead.
“It was easy for me to come here because I know how the manager is, I know he likes to work hard and he improves players as well.
“I thought it was a good opportunity for me to come here and I think I can improve as a player here.”
Wanyama has signed a five-year deal at Tottenham, worth around £70,000-a-week.
He is looking forward to playing in the Champions League again after scoring for Celtic against Barcelona in November 2012.

He also saw his older brother McDonald Mariga win the tournament with Inter Milan in 2010.
Wanyama said: “The Champions League is a big stage – it’s where every player dreams of playing
“Watching my brother winning the Champions League was really good. That was always in my head, that one day I want to achieve what he has achieved.
“Here at Spurs, playing against teams like Barca and Real Madrid will only make us better and if you brush shoulders with the world’s best players then nothing is impossible.
“I think we will have some great nights for the fans and the players and hopefully we can go far in the competition.”
