ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has been left red-faced - after confusing the Croatia team doctor for new Paris Saint-Germain manager Unai Emery.
Wenger, nicknamed “Le Professeur” for his detailed knowledge of the game, also has a reputation for his dodgy eyesight after a career in which he insists he failed to see any controversial incident in a game.
But you would have thought the Gunners boss might have known what the man who is soon to be in charge of one of Europe's top clubs looks like.
Wenger thought he spotted Emery at the Turkey v Croatia game in Paris, so congratulated him on a successful season and asked how negotiations with PSG were going.
But it was not Emery at all - instead it was Tomaslav Madzar, one of Croatia's medical staff.
"Wenger congratulated me on an excellent season and asked me if I had reached an agreement with PSG", said Madzar, who had his picture taken with the unsuspecting Arsenal boss.
Wenger wasn't the only Frenchman fooled, though. Real Madrid striker David Trezeguet, who was on TV duty with Wenger, also made the same mistake.
And when Madzar was spotted by a group of French fans at the Croatia v Spain game in Bordeaux a few days later, they started chanting "Emery, Emery when you get to PSG you'll have unlimited money”.
