TROY DEENEY has signed a new long-term contract at Watford - ending speculation of a mega-money move to Leicester City.

The Premier League champions had seen a £25million bid turned down for the 13-goal striker, but the Hornets confirmed club captain Deeney has signed a new five-year deal.

Deeney, 28, had been linked with a move to the King Power Stadium after an impressive debut campaign in the top flight.

Under former manager Quique Sanchez Flores, Deeney scored 13 Premier League goals and struck up a fine partnership with Odion Ighalo.

While Jamie Vardy's future was unclear, Claudio Ranieri had been linked with Deeney - but after the England striker signed a new deal that interest cooled.

Deeney told the Watford website: "This club really means business and I want to be part of this.

"We’ve talked things through in a sensible way – and it’s helped me fully deal with lots of my own thoughts.

"When you’re right in the middle of something, maybe you take it for granted how quickly things are moving forward.

"I don’t think I’ve done that; but by talking it over it’s clear that Watford isn’t ever going to settle for second-best – and that’s how I want to feel about my career so it works for me."
