Euro 2016: Germany ace Ilkay Gundogan reveals his agony of missing country’s bid for glory at summer tournament
ILKAY GUNDOGAN has revealed his agony over missing Germany’s bid for Euro 2016 glory.
The midfielder, 25, who left Borussia Dortmund to join Pep Guardiola’s revolution at Manchester City, is still recovering from a knee injury.
And he admits it has been tough following his fellow countrymen.
Gundogan watched their 6–5 penalty shootout win over Italy from his hotel bedroom and said: “It’s not easy to watch them playing and being successful.
“It’s sad I can’t take part in it, like two years ago at the World Cup. It’s not easy for me but I wish the team the best.

Gundogan, a £20.4million signing, is more upbeat about the knee he damaged while playing basketball.
He said: “The plan to come back was the end of August or September. And that’s still the plan.”
