Christian Benteke to Crystal Palace: Alan Pardew lining up audacious club-record £31.5m bid for Liverpool’s Belgium striker
Benteke only joined the Reds last summer for £32.5m from Aston Villa but struggled at Anfield - scoring just 10 goals
CRYSTAL PALACE have sensationally made an improved club-record £31.5m bid for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke.
Benteke moved to the Reds for £32.5m from Aston Villa only last year but failed to set Anfield alight, scoring just 10 goals in 42 appearances.
Palace made an official £25m offer for the player last week but it was rejected by the Anfield club. The Guardian have reported that The Eagles have now hit back with an higher bid worth an initial £27m rising to £31.5m.
The reports adds that the player is keen on the move to revive his career – the 25-year-old's involvement at Euro 2016 for Belgium was limited to just 10 minutes in total as a substitute.
Palace were also interested in his international team-mate Michy Batshauyi, but he has completed his move to Chelsea for £33m from Marseille.
