Mario Gotze transfer news: Bayern Munich midfielder will snub Liverpool to rejoin former club Borussia Dortmund
German World Cup winner has agreed five-year deal with Bundesliga rivals as clubs agree £23million deal
MARIO GOTZE will snub a Premier League move in favour of a return to Borussia Dortmund.
The German midfielder has grown frustrated at his lack of playing time for Bayern Munich since his controversial switch from their Bundesliga rivals three seasons ago.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was keen on a re-union with the World Cup winner, with Arsenal and Chelsea also linked earlier in the summer.
And now claims that Gotze has chosen the ‘easy option’ of rejoining his former club.
He has reportedly agreed a five-year deal and will cost £23million.
Gotze, 24, joined Bayern in a £30m deal three years ago after excelling as Dortmund upset the odds to win two German titles in 2011 and 2012.
He enjoyed a successful first two seasons at the Allianz but was limited to just 14 league appearances last term under Pep Guardiola.
Gotze was initially reluctant to leave Bayern this window and stated that he was looking forward to working with new boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Hopes of a reunion with Klopp were scuppered when his former mentor opted to sign Southampton’s Sadio Mane for £30m instead.
Spurs are not believed to have made an official offer.
Gotze will be under pressure to hit the ground running back on his old stomping ground.
Dortmund supporters have never forgiven their former hero for joining their arch-rivals and unfurled a banner reading ‘Milan or Madrid. Just not Dortmund. P*** off Gotze’ when Bayern visited the Westfalenstadion in April.
Gotze scored 31 goals in 116 games in his original spell at Dortmund.
He will fill the hole left by Henrikh Mkhitaryan after the Armenian’s transfer to Manchester United.
