Frank Lampard wins clash of former Chelsea stars as NYC FC beat Didier Drogba’s Montreal Impact

First-half strikes from David Villa and Jack Harrison got the visitors off to a flier before Harry Shipp pulled one back.

But Lampard, 38, added a fluke third to ensure Patrick Vieira's side took all three points back to the Big Apple,

Former Barcelona star Villa slotted home his 13th of the season before Stoke-born Harrison doubled their advantage before the break.

Shipp's cross somehow found the net for 2-1 but as the Impact pushed for an equaliser Lamps popped up.

The veteran took a heavy touch from Andrea Pirlo's ball but when Wandrille Lefevre went to clear the ball cannoned off him and into the net.

City currently top the Eastern Conference with nine wins from 21 games this season despite a -1 goal difference in a competitive league.

Montreal sit seven points behind their rivals in fourth.

Drogba, Pirlo and Villa will play in the MLS all-star team to face Arsenal on their pre-season tour.

But Lampard missed the cut after struggling with injuries during his time Stateside.

Liam Ridgewell, Giovani dos Santos, Kaka, Clint Dempsey and Sebastian Giovinco are among the star names selected for the game.

It will be played on July 28 at the Avaya Stadium in San Jose.
