Chelsea transfer news: Blues make £38million bid for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly

Antonio Conte eyes Senegal international as the missing link in his defence

CHELSEA have launched a £38million bid for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly as Antonio Conte steps up the chase for a central defender.

The Blues have been tracking the talented 25-year-old and their interest in the player was made public after the defender’s agent admitted Chelsea wanted to sign him this summer.

And according to Sky Italy, Chelsea have submitted an offer that they believe will be enough to lure Koulibaly to Stamford Bridge.

The move comes just one day after the Italian side lost star striker Gonzalo Higuain to Serie A rivals Juventus for an astonishing £75.3 million.

Antonio Conte wants to bolster his defensive options

Koulibaly has attracted the interest of clubs across Europe including Everton after a dominating role in the heart of a back four that boasted the league’s second best defensive record behind Juventus.

Conte is keen to turn his attentions to Chelsea’s leaky defence after signing striker Michy Batshuayi and midfielder N’Golo Kante this summer.

Chelsea conceded 53 goals in the Premier League last season, 17 more than champions Leicester.
