He joined Chelsea’s academy in 2006 aged 12 and was part of the 2012 Champions League-winning squad.

Blackman’s time at Chelsea saw him loaned out to numerous clubs including Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Leeds.

The former England U19 international spent this season at Rotherham United, where he played 28 times in all competitions as the Millers were relegated.

However, one option would be for youngster Jamie Cumming to return to the squad.

The 21-year-old was Chelsea’s No3 before Mendy arrived last summer and bumped everyone down a notch.

Cumming made 47 appearances for League Two side Stevenage on loan this season.

And he may now find himself back training with the seniors ahead of a third-choice role for the upcoming campaign.

And Olivier Giroud’s contract was given a new 2022 expiry date back in April.
