EVERTON are trying to hijack Wojciech Szczesny’s move to Roma - and are chasing a deal for Swansea skipper Ashley Williams.

Ronald Koeman has launched a stunning move to take the Arsenal goalkeeper on a season-long loan.

The Dutchman is ready to make the Poland international his No1 following Tim Howard’s return to America at the end of last season.

Szczesny was close to agreeing a second season on loan in Italy but the deal has not been signed off – giving Koeman the chance to pounce.

Arsene Wenger waited until David Ospina’s future was sorted before allowing Szczesny, 26, to go out again.

And he fits the bill for Koeman after being left with Joel Robles on his Goodison Park arrival and signing Maarten Stekelenburg, 33, from Fulham.

Koeman used Stekelenburg as a back-up at Southampton last season during a loan and Szczesny would expect to be ahead of the Dutch keeper in the pecking order.

Targeting the Arsenal stopper proves Everton’s ambition this season after Farhad Moshiri’s takeover last season.

They have also approached Swansea over a deal for Wales skipper Williams, as they prepare for John Stones’ departure.

Williams has turned down moves away from the Liberty Stadium in the past but is prepared to talk to Koeman if an offer is accepted.

The 31-year-old has two years left on his Swans deal and it will need at least a £10million bid to be considered.
