Centre-half Kone, 27, is wanted by Premier League rivals Everton.

Moyes turned down an initial bid from his former club, but the Toffees will now raise their offer for the Ivory Coast star to £18m.

That could prove too good to turn down for a player who cost the Black Cats £5m from French side Lorient in January.

Sunderland need a big price as former club Lorient are due 25 per cent of any sale.

Mbodj was close to joining West Ham a year ago but had snags obtaining a work permit. But he has now gained the required caps to seal a move to the Prem.
