Luke Shaw is just one youngster set to shine after recovering from his broken leg
YOUNG GUNS GO FOR IT!
Apologies for the Wham-related headline but the we felt it was high time that we looked at those kids, nippers and ankle biters that could well excel themselves in this year’s .
These are the players who have the world at their fancy feet, the young men who could take that next great leap in their careers this season. But are they worth a place in your Dream Team XI? We think they are.
And no, it doesn’t include Harry Kane…
Luke Shaw
Manchester United
Price: £2.5 million
The England left-back recently made his long-awaited comeback after 10 months on the sidelines with a badly broken leg and his performances in pre-season friendlies have already drawn rave reviews from new United boss Jose Mourinho. It’ll be good to have him back.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Chelsea
Price: £2 million
The 20-year-old made 17 appearances for Chelsea in their difficult season last year, scoring twice but this will be a key season for him. He’s already impressed new manager Antonio Conte with his contributions in pre-season but he’ll need to find greater consistency if he’s going to stand a chance of nailing down a first team place.
James Ward-Prowse
Southampton
Price: £2.5 million
The skipper of the England Under-21 side, Ward-Prowse’s game is characterised by endless energy and a rare ability to deliver consistently accurate balls from set pieces. And who cares if he looks like an octopus falling out of a tree when he takes them – they’re brutally effective.
Anthony Martial
Price: £5 million
Seventeen goals in all competitions represented a fantastic return for the £36 million teenage sensation in his first season in English football. He also formed a very promising partnership with Marcus Rashford but how that will play out after the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic remains to be seen.
Dele Alli
Spurs
Price: £5 million
Try and forget the debacle that was England’s Euro 2016 campaign and just remember some of the incredible things that the 19-year-old has achieved in the past season. Not only did he win the PFA Young Player of the Year award but he established himself as first choice for England too.
