Ramsdale then emerged as a surprise name on Arsenal’s summer wanted list with the future of Bernd Leno unclear.

Yet according to , any deal for the 23-year-old would have proved difficult while he was away with Gareth Southgate’s squad.

But the report adds that Arsenal are understood to have told the Blades to expect an offer for Ramsdale once the Euros are over.

The Gunners' opening bid is said to likely fall short of United's £40million price tag but will prove the club are serious about a deal.

Emirates boss Mikel Arteta has a major goalkeeper issue this summer with No1 Leno linked with returning to Germany.

Brighton’s Mat Ryan spent the second half of last season on loan in North London but looks unlikely to return to Arsenal.

Ramsdale meanwhile suffered a tough season with Sheff Utd following their relegation from the Premier League.

He returned to his old club last summer in a £20m move from Bournemouth - again as a replacement for Red Devils stopper Henderson.

Ramsdale, who was in England’s initial 33-man squad, is one of three goalkeepers involved in the Three Lions set-up for Euro 2020.

The former Chesterfield loanee was also part of the country's Under-21s Euros squad that crashed out in the group stages in March.

He is currently behind Everton's Jordan Pickford and Sam Johnstone of West Brom in Southgate's pecking order.

SunSport previously reported that Arsenal are set to be active in the market this summer after they were linked with signing Italy star Manuel Locatelli.
