Paulo Dybala will follow Alessandro Del Piero and Roberto Baggio as he inherits Paul Pogba’s No10 shirt at Juventus
PAULO DYBALA inherited the most important shirt at Juventus a year after Paul Pogba relinquished it by moving to Manchester United.
The hallowed ‘No10’ shirt has passed through generations of legends before reaching the talented Argentine’s back.
Pogba wore the shirt for 12 impressive months before joining United in a world record £89million deal.
Dybala looked set to inherit the jersey last season, but it remained vacated for a year.
However, it now has a new owner.
The 23-year-old is considered one of the brightest prospects in the game and was a target for United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Three wearers have claimed the Ballon d’Or — with one winning it three times in a row.
SunSport picks out five legends to have worn that No10 for the Bianconeri.
Omar Sivori — 1957 to 1965
Argentine was John Charles’ strike partner in Turin.
He moved to Juventus in 1957 and revolutionised a club which had been going through somewhat of a slump.
Sivori took up Italian nationality and was named European Footballer of the Year in 1961.
He won three Serie A titles and two Italian Cups.
He is Juventus’ fifth all-time to goal scorer and once scored six goals in a 9-1 thrashing of Inter Milan in 1961.
Sivori also scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid, as the Old Lady became the first Italian team to win at the Bernabeu in 1962.
Michel Platini — 1982 to 1987
Before becoming a disgraced Uefa president, Platini was pretty decent footballer.
In fact, there was only Diego Maradona at the time between himself and a place as the world’s No1 footballer.
He moved to Juve from St Etienne following an impressive display at the World Cup for France.
Platini became the catalyst of of the club’s most successful period ever, as he led the Bianconeri to the Italian title twice, a Coppa Italia, a Cup Winners’ Cup, a Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup and a first-ever European Cup.
He was Serie A top goal scorer for three consecutive seasons, and only the first player to win the Ballon d’Or three years in a row until a certain Lionel Messi achieved the feat in 2011.
Roberto Baggio — 1990 to 1995
Italian idol caused uproar in Florence when left Fiorentina for Juventus for a world-record £8million deal.
Baggio was regarded as one of the best players in the world at the time, and won the 1993 Ballon d’Or.
He became the lynchpin and the team was built around him.
In fact, new boss, Marcello Lippi, decided Juventus had become too reliant on Baggio and for that season sold him to AC Milan in 1996.
He won a league and cup double in his final season in Turin and a Uefa Cup in 1993.
Baggio once scored four goals in the opening 20 minutes of a 5-1 win over Ancona, with team-mate David Platt, admitting: “I don't think I've seen a better performance from any player in any game I've ever played in.”
Alessandro Del Piero — 1995 to 2012
Moved to Turin in 1993, but only inherited the No10 shirt once Baggio left.
One of the truly great players of his era.
Del Piero became the symbol of Juventus teams which included the likes of Zinedine Zidane then Pavel Nedved then Gianluigi Buffon.
He won the Champions League in 1996 and scored in the final the following season, where they lost to Borussia Dortmund.
He also scored the only goal as Juventus won the Intercontinental Cup.
Del Piero was part of six Serie A-winning sides, although two were later taken away following a match-fixing scandal which saw the club relegated.
He stayed with Juventus and won the Serie B title in 2007.
Moved to Australia in 2012 after making a record 705 appearance and record 290 goals.
The Azzurri legend tweeted a message of good luck to Dybala after it was revealed he would don the hallowed shirt.
Carlos Tevez — 2013 to 2015
The Argentine was only at for two seasons after completing his £27million move, but he did the No10 shirt justice.
It had remained unclaimed for the season immediately after Del Piero’s departure.
Tevez scored 19 league goals as Juventus won third consecutive Serie A title in 2014.
But it was the following season, where the club came close to making history.
He scored 20 league goals as Juve romped to the title, before completing a domestic double with a first Coppa Italia success in 20 years.
They had the chance to complete a first-ever Treble, but lost to Barcelona in the Champions League final.
Overall, Tevez scored 50 goals in two seasons at Juventus.
