The £30million fee Southampton recouped for the striker appeared hefty at first, but Mane is already proving his worth.

After some terrific work from Adam Lallana - another Saints old boy - Mane picked up the ball in the heart of Barca's defence and found the top corner with a striker's instinct.

Manchester United were hot on the heels of the speedy attacker last season but missed out on him to their fierce rivals.

And what a loss that could prove to be.

If the pre-season tournament clash against La Liga giants Barca is anything to go by, he could be the key to Liverpool breaking into the top four.

Mane has the qualities Jurgen Klopp wants in a player - pace, teamwork, and most importantly, energy.

The German has also drafted in Loris Karius, Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan to push for a Champions League finish this season.

Meanwhile, Anfield fan-favourite Luis Suarez is pitted against his old club for the first time since leaving for the Nou Camp in 2014.
