Romano claims that the White Hart Lane side will take Gollini on loan until 2022, with the option to extend the period until 2023.

And once the initial loan deal is complete, Spurs would be able to make the move permanent for £13million, which could become obligatory depending on the number of starts the 26-year-old makes.

Romano wrote on Twitter: "Tottenham are now finalizing paperworks with Atalanta for Pierluigi Gollini.

"Deal confirmed and set to be signed in the next hours - he joins Spurs.

"Loan until 2022 + option to extend the loan until 2023 + buy option €15m [potential buy obligation linked to caps]."

Nuno Espirito Santo's side were first linked with a move for Gollini just a few days ago.

It was reported that both Spurs and Wolves had tabled £17m bids for the star who had previously spent time in the Premier League with Aston Villa.

Gollini enjoyed a brief spell at Villa Park after he joined them for £4.1m back in 2016.

But his tenure there was short-lived and he managed just 20 appearances before heading to Atalanta in 2018.

While in Italy, Gollini helped steer Atalanta to a third-placed finish in the Serie A last season, with 10 clean sheets in 25 starts.

Although that hasn't stopped their boss Gian Piero Gasperini replacing him with new stopper Juan Musso.

If he completes his move to North London, Gollini will replace Hugo Lloris' former No2 Paulo Gazzaniga.

He left Tottenham after first three seasons when his place in the squad was taken by Joe Hart last summer.
