According to La Stampa, though, ‘everything has stopped’ because the Italian outfit aren't matching the Gunners' valuation.

The North Londoners want €20million (£17m) for the midfielder but Roma have yet to meet their demands.

The Switzerland international is desperate to move to the Stadio Olimpico but Arsenal are standing firm on their asking price.

So much so that the 28-year-old is willing to give up his bonuses with the Premier League side.

Personal terms between Xhaka and Roma have reportedly been agreed but the two clubs have hit a snag.

The midfielder offered a cryptic response when questioned on his Arsenal future.

Xhaka recently said: "Arsenal know what I want to do… it is very beautiful here [in Rome]."

New Roma boss Jose Mourinho is a big fan and has sung the player's praises when he was in charge of Manchester United and Tottenham.

The Special One previously said: "Granit Xhaka is the main man in the entire Arsenal midfield, you can’t see it unless I lend you one of my eyes.

"Without him, Arsenal is lost. He is a leader. Remember, mistakes are made by humans."

Xhaka joined Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016 and amassed a total of 13 goals and 20 assists in 220 appearances across all competitions in a controversial Emirates career.

The former Basel star stood out in Euro 2020 but the Gunners are looking to offload some players in order to raise funds after missing out on Europe for the first time in 25 years.
