Manchester United’s Paul Pogba may be the world’s most expensive player, but he’s only second favourite to be named PFA Player of the Year

French midfielder, who cost Jose Mourinho and Co a mind-boggling £109m, is not the bookies' favourite to clinch the title

MANCHESTER UNITED new-boy Paul Pogba may be the world's most expensive player, but he's only second favourite to be named PFA Player of the Year for 2016-17.

That's right, Jose Mourinho, Ed Woodward and Co may have shelled out £109million to bring the French midfielder to Old Trafford, but according to the bookies, he won't even be the best player in the Premier League this term.

French star Pogba, 23, is 10/1 to win the annual gong, alongside fellow United newbie Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Argentine star, 28, is the 8/1 favourite to take the PotY crown.

However, his form improved dramatically in the last couple of games for the Stamford Bridge side - and then again with Belgium at Euro 2016.

Following Antonio Conte's star forward are no fewer than five big names in at 16/1 to take home the title of best player.

Tottenham's Harry Kane joins Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, alongside Arsenal duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, as well as Man City ace Kevin de Bruyne at 16s.

Interestingly, last year's winner - Leicester's Riyad Mahrez - doesn't even crack the top candidates... Watch this space.
