Arsenal transfer news: Arsene Wenger will only buy a ‘superstar’ striker as he targets Robert Lewandowski and Antoine Griezmann
Gunners boss desperate to land top-class forward to lead the line next season and is still interested in Alexandre Lacazette
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger wants to bring in a superstar striker before the end of the transfer window - with Robert Lewandowski and Antoine Griezmann his top targets.
The Gunners chief is desperate for a forward and willing to spend big on either of the pair - who will cost more than £60m.
His main target is Bayern Munich forward Lewandowski, who has stalled on signing a new contract because of his huge wage demands.
Wenger has been an admirer of the Poland ace, 27, since his days at Dortmund, and initial talks have begun on whether a deal could be struck with the German giants.
If he fails to land Lewandowski, he will turn his attention to 25-year-old Atletico Madrid star Griezmann.
It is thought the pair spoke briefly at Euro 2016, but a deal would be difficult after the Frenchman signed a new five-year contract in June.
But there is hope in landing Griezmann, as it emerged today he has an £85.5m buyout clause.
An Emirates source said: "Arsene is willing to spend on a striker this summer, but only for the right man.
"He has his targets and players he thinks will improve the squad, but this could go down to the wire."
Arsenal are known for their last-gasp raids, having brought into numerous players on transfer deadline day in recent years.
Another option for Wenger is Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, who he has already made a £29m bid for this summer.
