Liverpool ‘agree to sell Xherdan Shaqiri in £9.5m deal to Lyon’ with Jurgen Klopp adding cash to transfer kitty

The Swiss international has been surplus to requirements at Anfield over the last couple of seasons.

Shaqiri has featured just 21 times in the Premier League since the start of the 2019-20 campaign.

As a result, are now reporting that Liverpool have agreed a fee with Ligue 1 side Lyon that will see the 29-year-old leave Merseyside after three years with the club.

Shaqiri has only scored eight times in 63 appearances for the Reds since signing from Stoke for £13.5m in 2018.

And while his departure will free up some funds for Klopp to spend before the end of the transfer window, his recent comments would suggest he does not intend on bringing any other players in.

Speaking ahead of their opening Premier League game earlier this month, the German said: “You have to make changes from time to time but there must be room.

“Everyone expects some signings. Do you buy a new full-back? A new keeper? We already have good players there.

“In midfield, we have a lot of experience and exciting young boys in Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones.

“If you want to buy such players, you have to spend a lot of money. We don’t have to do that as the players are already here.”

Liverpool have made the perfect start to their Premier League campaign with victories over Norwich and Burnley.

Next up for Klopp's men is title rivals Chelsea at Anfield next Saturday.
