Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has given Ramsdale the nod ahead of Bernd Leno for their League Cup clash against the Championship side.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returns to captain the team and Martin Odegaard makes his second debut for the Gunners.

Ramsdale told the in 2019 he was a West Brom fan and looked up to Foster.

The former Sheffield United goalkeeper said: “Fozzy [Foster] made some great saves in the first half and it was great to share the pitch with him.

“Being a West Brom fan I watched him for a long, long time when he was there.”

Watford star Foster, 38, made more than 200 Premier League appearances for the Baggies between 2011 and 2018.

He also picked up eight senior caps for England and represented his country at the 2014 World Cup, keeping a clean sheet against Costa Rica.

Staffordshire-born Ramsdale admitted he tried to emulate Foster during his youth career as he came up through the ranks at Bramall Lane.

The Arsenal ace added: “The way he plays, the speed he plays at and being able to kick off both feet, I know his game inside and out.

“A few years ago, we played West Brom and he signed a shirt for me.

“He’s remembered ever since and he said, ‘You’re a proper goalie, you can play out, you can kick it and you come for crosses.’

“There are definitely things you try to take out of his game and implement into mine.”
