ARSENAL fans began to turn on manager Arsene Wenger just an hour into the new season.

Wenger had been the subject of huge scrutiny last season as supporters lost patience with his failure to deliver a Premier League title challenge.

And 60 minutes of the new campaign was all it took before the first boos rang out from the home supporters as Liverpool threatened to run riot.

All was good in the first half as the new-look Arsenal produced an impressive display, only to be pegged back by Philippe Coutinho's brilliant free-kick.

But once Liverpool scored two quick-fire goals after the break, the atmosphere suddenly turned hostile among the home supporters.

When Petr Cech dived full-length to deny the visitors a fourth goal, loud boos could be heard around the Emirates with fans shouting abuse at the home dug-out.

And there were more jeers when Wenger walked out into the technical area as he looked puzzled about what he was watching.

The fourth goal heralded chants of "You don't know what you're doing," aimed in Wenger's direction.

Arsenal fans then started arguing among themselves as stewards confronted one supporter holding up a sign asking "Where's our money gone?"

Some criticised the fan, while others argued with stewards for denying him the right to protest.
