The home side had been the better team in the first half and led through Theo Walcott.

Philippe Coutinho scored a stunning free-kick right on half-time to draw level, before the Reds scored three more goals through Coutinho, Lallana and Sadio Mane.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers both scored as Arsenal mounted a comeback, but Liverpool held on.

Lallana told Sky Sports; "I think maybe we showed them a little too much respect in the first half.

"He [Klopp] wanted us to get up to the ball more - more pressure, more counter-pressing. He said to use how fit we are and how we can really push on in the second half.

"We came out the traps firing and got the second, third and fourth [goals].

"We let them come back in it and it was a bit of a tense last 10 minutes.

"It was nice to hear the final whistle and get three points, and we can go home happy."

The England international then revealed how choice words from the German sparked the Reds into life.

"It was very entertaining.

"We started the game not so brightly after we thought we had quite a good preseason.

"But it's always difficult coming to Arsenal.

"On the stroke of half-time there was a little bit of magic which gave us a little bit of a lift.

"The manager had a few words for us at half-time and we came out brilliantly.

"Football being football, maybe we got a bit complacent at 4-1 but we saw it out in the end."
