Arsenal transfer news: Naby Keita turns down Gunners move…despite personal plea from Arsene Wenger
The Red Bull Salzburg midfielder joined German side Red Bull Leipzig for £12million instead
ARSENAL were snubbed by Guinea star Naby Keita — despite a personal plea from Arsene Wenger.
The Red Bull Salzburg midfielder joined German side Red Bull Leipzig for £12million instead.
Manchester City, Liverpool and Southampton also tried to lure him to England in the summer.
Keita, 21, revealed: “All those clubs got in touch with me about a move.
“I didn’t speak with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp but I had a phone conversation with Arsene Wenger, who spoke French to me.
“Yet I chose Leipzig as they have great potential and I didn’t yet want to join a big Champions League club.
“Leipzig’s sporting director Ralf Rangnick has treated me like a son. He came to France in 2014 to sign me for Salzburg and I trust him entirely.”
