Bastian Schweinsteiger watches Manchester United’s win over Southampton from the stands as Old Trafford exit seems inevitable
Midfield general was in the stands to watch Zlatan's brace beat Saints and could still crack a smile
BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER was at Old Trafford tonight for Manchester United's win over Southampton - but the midfield general had to watch from the stands.
The German still managed to crack a smile despite being shunned by new boss Jose Mourinho as his team-mates cruised to a 2-0 victory thanks to a Zlatan Ibrahimovic brace.
He captioned the image with the message: 'First @premierleague game of the season at Old Trafford! Good luck, guys! @ManUtd.'
Schweinsteiger has been frozen out at Old Trafford and spent his Friday not preparing for the game but playing golf in Cheshire.
United's midfield has undergone a transformation this summer with the arrival of Paul Pogba for a world record fee and Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Dortmund.
And the World Cup winning German has been told by Jose Mourinho that he won't feature again - before being banished to the reserve team.
It is a difficult situation for the former Bayern man which was made more so when his brother, Tobi, tweeted: 'No respect.'
The message was seen as a dig at Mourinho for his decision to release Schweinsteiger before giving him a chance to shine.
