Edimilson Fernandes to West Ham: Club agrees deal to sign FC Sion midfielder for £5.5million
WEST HAM have agreed a £5.5million deal to sign FC Sion midfielder Edimilson Fernandes.
The Swiss midfielder, 20, is set to travel to London on Wednesday for a medical.
Fernandes, cousin to former Manchester City player Gelson, made 26 appearances in the Swiss Super League last season, scoring one goal.
He also played against Liverpool twice in the Europa League last term.
West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has been hit by an injury crisis with several key players out for the start of the season.
New signing Andre Ayew is out with a thigh muscle strain until mid-December and Dimitri Payet, Sofiane Feghouli, Andy Carroll, Aaron Cresswell and Manuel Lanzini have all suffered crocks.
Fernandes, a Sion youth product, is expected to sign a four-year contract, subject to passing a medical.
Meanwhile, Bilic has openly expressed interest in both Wilfried Bony and Simone Zaza.
The Croatian said: “We have a couple of players we are trying to do a deal with. We have injuries and we are short of numbers.
“In terms of signings if something good quality wise comes up we are going to act.
“Bony is an option because he plays in the position we are looking for. I leave negotiations to the chairman and Tony Henry.”
Bilic added: "We were linked with him (Zaza) last year and he is a top player.
"We were in contact with him last year and will see what happens."
