CHELSEA are making another effort to sign AC Milan centre-back Alessio Romagnoli.

The Italian defender, 21, was the subject of a £30million approach by the Blues earlier this week but the offer was rebuffed by Milan.

But according to the , Antonio Conte wants Romagnoli to strengthen his back-four and is plotting another bid totalling £34m after missing out on Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Napoli defender was top of Conte's summer wishlist but they have continually been told the Senegalese international is not for sale - and has been offered a new deal.

A further £4m worth of add-ons will be included in the new offer to try and tempt Milan to sell - but they have centre-back issues of their own and may be unwilling to let the youngster go.

Romagnoli began his career at Roma before moving to Milan for £21.2m last summer and is expected to win his first international caps soon.

Conte needs defensive cover and the youth and enthusiasm the Italian starlet would bring makes him the ideal candidate.

Chelsea face Burnley on Saturday as they look to continue their perfect start to the season.
