Watch: Jermaine Jenas walks on the pitch in BBC’s crazy new hi-tech graphic to explain grabbing at corners

Twitter slams latest TV wizardry as former England star in his jeans joins players jostling for the ball

JERMAINE Jenas returns to the pitch... as a dodgy special effect on the BBC's new football show.

The former Tottenham and England star was seen walking about as a 3D hologram in his jeans and casual top as players jostled for the ball during The Premier League Football Show.

The show is the Beeb's latest attempt to mirror Sky's flashier coverage of sport.

Hosted by Gabby Logan, it included an interview by Match of the Day host Gary Lineker with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

But the most contentious part of the show was when Jenas appeared as a 3D hologram in the middle of Premier League action.

First Jenas was shown loitering on the six yard box giving his take on the footage as Tottenham new boy Victor Wanyama scored a late winner against Crystal Palace.

And he then popped up in the Leicester penalty area to point out what was going wrong as the defending champions conceded from a corner in their opening fixture against Hull.

Unfortunately Jenas- who is 5ft 10in in his socks - was out of proportion to the players around him, and towered over the current stars like 6ft 1in Wes Morgan and 6ft 2 in Curtis Davies.

The former England midfielder also strolled into the picture as West Brom's Gareth McAuley headed in a Craig Gardner corner at the far post to put his side ahead against Everton last weekend.

Jenas, 33, praised Saido Berahino for setting up the goal by blocking Leighton Baines and Maarten Stekelenburg.

"When you're in the box, it's aggressive, you've got to get your blocks in, but it earns you goals," he said.

But fans were unconvinced by Beeb's latest attempt at hi-tech special effects.

And they took to Twitter to deliver a scathing verdict.

Some fans however loved the new graphics and the added bonus of seeing a 3D Jermaine Jenas walking about amid the action.

One also commented on the presenter's choice of clothes, praising his 'lovely sweater'.

And the stars themselves enjoyed the new innovation.

Dan Walker and Gabby Logan both tweeted Jenas to congratulate him on his return to the pitch.

However it clearly lacked the finesse of Sky Sports' advert from last season, which saw Thierry Henry on the pitch during iconic moments of Premier League action.
