Arsenal have been linked with Valencia centre-back Shkodran Mustafi and Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez in recent days.

When asked about the pair, Wenger said: "We are working on the deals, but we are not close enough to announce today.

"Will we sign anyone before the window closes?

"I’m 99 per cent confident that we will make a signing.

"I'm more optimistic than before but I can't announce anything yet."

Both Mustafi and Perez are reported to be flying into London for a medical TODAY.

Mustafi is set to join on a £35m deal, signing a five-year contract, while Perez's £17.1m release clause has been met.

Wenger added: "It was a strange transfer market, I expected it to be easier than ever, it has been more difficult than ever.

"It looks like it will be frenetic in the last three days, everyone has sat on their money but we know they will all splash out now."

Wenger also confirmed that, despite the defensive crisis, Calum Chambers would be going on loan - but will not be sold.

Bar Mustafi and Perez, Wenger admitted that no other players will be coming.

"We have a big squad, we cannot have more players anyway."

Speaking about unrest among supporters, Wenger said: "I’m happy when our supporters are happy but my job is to make the right decisions.

"I focus first on making sure I make the right decisions."
