Leicester City transfer news: Adrien Silva will stay at Sporting after club said his contract extension means he will retire there

Sporting midfielder Adrien Silva appears to have confirmed a move to Leicester

LEICESTER CITY's target Adrien Silva will stay at Sporting after a club statement claimed he will terminate his career at the club.

Boss Claudio Ranieri looks to build a squad for Champions League clashes late this window, but priority target Silva will not make the move.

A , on Monday, said: "It was absolutely clear that this extension of the attachment [a contract extension signed in February] to Sporting CP meant Adrien Silva would be at the club until the end of his career," the statement read.

"This has been said and clearly expressed by the club's president to the player, the father of the athlete and their representatives before consummating the renewal of the contract."

However, he Foxes are hot on the trail for Silva's team-mate Islam Slimani.

Slimani appears to be on his way to the Premier League after leaving the pitch in tears following a 2-1 win over Porto last weekend.

Ranieri wants another striker for their European campaign but the Foxes have so far refused to meet his mega £35million valuation.

He netted 27 goals last season as Sporting finished runners-up to Lisbon's rivals Benfica in the Portuguese title race.
