IVAN TONEY left fans torn after appearing to stamp on Manchester City's Fernandinho and managing to stay on the pitch.

With the Premier League champions leading just before half-time at Brentford, midfielder Fernandinho was brought down while battling for the ball.

Striker Toney then jumped in with a challenge and appeared to catch the Brazilian with his feet.

But the forward avoided any punishment despite contact being revealed upon replays.

City may have felt hard done by, but it was only moments earlier that Fernandinho actually barged into Toney.

It had fans saying it was a classic case of six of one and half a dozen of the other.

One said: "Think he’s lucky to not get anything but you can say the same for Fernandinho which is why I think no action has been taken.

"Then again, VAR is there to help the referee so why hasn’t it done it for Ferna’s challenge and then Toney’s? Strange."

Another said: "If anything what Dinho did was more of a red, but neither were."

One added: "He done the same to toney 2 minutes before this."

Another added: "I think there’s a difference, he needs to be careful with Fernandinho as he’s a lot cleverer at the dark arts of kicking people without it getting noticed."

Phil Foden's opener on the 16th minute was the only thing separating the sides at the time.

And it proved to be enough as Pep Guardiola's men made it ten wins on the bounce.
