Joao Moutinho tucked a right-footed effort into the bottom left corner with 82 minutes on the clock to see Wolves win at Old Trafford for the first time in nearly 42 years.

But the scoreline did not do Lage's team justice as they dominated for most of the game.

They were well on top in the first-half and although Rangnick's tweaks after the break saw United edge back in, Wolves more than deserved their late winner.

And speaking afterwards, Lage revealed his game plan was quite a simple one.

He said: "The most important thing to us is to see where the full-backs are and in which positions they start in order to find the spaces.

"And if you look at the first-half, when they defended, they were trying to block.

"[Edinson] Cavani tried to control Ruben [Neves], Cristiano Ronaldo tried to control [Conor] Coady and the wingers came inside.

"So the space was on the outside.

"That's why [Nelson] Semedo and Marcal had a lot of chances and a lot of the ball in the first-half.

"And the boys found those spaces.

"That's what is so important - when you have the ball to find the space.

"And when you are defending [Daniel] Podence and Trincao understand what to do if the full-backs are in front of them...

"Or if they go it's not your man and you control the space inside.

Phil Jones was the best of an average bunch two years after his last Premier League game, while Jadon Sancho was woeful.

Wolves moved eighth with the win - just three points behind seventh-placed United.
