Cristiano Ronaldo could leave Real Madrid for Barcelona switch – according to Portugal legend Luis Figo
Former star left Nou Camp for Santiago Bernabeu in 2000 and claims release clauses make anything possible
LUIS FIGO claims there’s a chance Cristiano Ronaldo could leave Real Madrid for arch-rivals Barcelona in the future.
The Portuguese legend himself completed an infamous switch from the Nou Camp to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2000 when Real met his £37million release clause.
And although Ronaldo is widely expected to sign a new Madrid deal shortly, Figo reckons the inclusion of buyout clauses makes anything possible in the world of football.
He said: “We are in a free market. If there is a termination clause, anything can happen.
“[For me] the first reason was the recognition by the president of Real Madrid.
“So things were getting more serious and I received the offer and I reported it [to Barcelona] with a view to improving my contract.”
Ronaldo is currently recovering from the injury he sustained against France in Portugal’s Euro 2016 win, but looks set to return for this weekend’s trip to Osasuna.
The 31-year-old has been working hard in training under Zinedine Zidane, and has even taken to wearing a thick jumper despite the scorching 30 degree heat.
Ronaldo has been keeping fans up-to-date with his fitness programme, and the vast majority will be hoping he doesn’t see Figo’s quotes.
