WAYNE ROONEY and Frank Lampard will be interviewed for the vacant managerial post at Everton after Rafa Benitez's sacking.

The Spaniard was given the chop at the weekend after he watched his side slump to 2-1 defeat at relegation strugglers Norwich, leaving the Toffees with just one win in their last 13 league outings.

And according to the , former England team-mates Rooney and Lampard are in the running for the job as part of a four-man shortlist.

Rooney would, however, need an official agreement for him to be formally interviewed by the Everton board.

Former Toffees ace Rooney is currently trying to work a miracle at Championship outfit Derby.

Roo's team would be 11th if it wasn't for the 21-point deduction they were handed for entering administration.

Derby are eight points off Reading in 21st with 20 games left to go... the great escape is more than doable.

Lampard, on the other hand, has been out of a job since the start of last year after being sacked by Chelsea - who went on to win the Champions League with his replacement Thomas Tuchel.

Everton had tried to bring back former boss Roberto Martinez, but an agreement with the Belgian Football Association to share the Spanish coach until the end of the World Cup finals in December could not be reached.

Assistant and long-term servant Duncan Ferguson is one of the other names being mentioned but it is unclear whether he would land the job on a permanent basis.

Former Wolves and Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo is also one of the bookies' favourites.
