Reds boss Jurgen Klopp dropped Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho to the bench in favour of England striker Sturridge.
James Milner and Lucas Leiva continued in defence while new signings Loris Karius and Ragnar Klavan were both on the bench despite recent injuries.
Leicester named unchanged following their win over Swansea last time out.
