Mark Halsey: Mark Clattenburg should have sent off Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo during Manchester derby
Claudio Bravo's two-footed lunge on Wayne Rooney should have been punished with a red card during Old Trafford clash
THERE were two decisions that left Jose Mourinho raging following the Manchester derby defeat.
The Special One claimed United were denied two clear second-half penalties.
City new boy Claudio Bravo escaped following an ugly two-footed lunge on Wayne Rooney.
And Mourinho claimed Nicolas Otamendi should have been penalised for handling Antonio Valencia’s cross.
Former Premier League ref Mark Halsey says United should have been awarded one spot-kick – with Bravo the guilty man.
"He has turned his back on Valenica’s cross but there is no intention. Mark, for me, has got that spot on.
"You can’t be giving them for that."
Halsey says Bravo should have gone and Clattenburg was let down by his fellow officials.
He added: “Bravo has miscontrolled the ball, is off the ground and and is out of control. So it’s a case of whether it’s reckless which is a caution?
"Or whether it’s reckless that endangers the players’ safety with excessive force.
"That should be sanctioned with a red card. It’s hard to blame Mark. He would not have seen the extent of the challenge from the position he was in."
"You have to ask questions of assistant referee Simon Bennett. What is he doing as he has the ultimate viewing angle?
"In any case it should result in a penalty for Manchester United."
