Manchester United write off £6.7million as Bastian Schweinsteiger is considered to be nowhere near Jose Mourinho's first team.
The German hero is yet to play for the Red Devils this season and the Special One has left him out of his Europa League squad.
The club have abandoned any ambitions of recouping a fee for Schweinsteiger, after the latest financial figures show they have written off his £6.7million outlay.
The 32-year-old is now available on a free transfer after the club hinted the experienced midfielder is no longer seen as part of United's first-team squad.
United said in their financial results: "Exceptional costs for the year were £15.1 million of which £6.7 million related to a registrations impairment charge regarding a reduction in the carrying value of a player no longer considered to be a member of the first team playing squad."
