CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN stepped up his recovery this afternoon by grabbing two assists against Rangers in a friendly.

A Brentford B side took on the Scottish champions behind-closed-doors as both sides looked to give players valuable minutes.

Eriksen, 30, was back in action as he nears a full return, seven months after the cardiac arrest he suffered at Euro 2020 last June.

And it appeared he'd never been away, as he set up two goals in the 2-2 draw.

The former Tottenham star could now be in line to make his debut for Thomas Frank's first team against Newcastle on Saturday.

Eriksen was into the action early in Monday's match, stinging the palms of Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie from range.

His corner was then headed home by compatriot Mathias Jorgensen to give the visitors the lead in Glasgow.

Manchester United loanee Amad Diallo equalised for the Gers before Eriksen nearly had another assist, only for Saman Ghoddos to have his shot saved after getting on the end of a smart pass.

It was Rangers who were to go in front, with Amad converting the rebound after Alvaro Fernandez had saved Kemar Roofe's penalty.

McCrorie denied Eriksen again after half-time, but Brentford wouldn't be denied a draw - and it came from another set-piece.

New-boy Eriksen whipped a free-kick into the danger zone, with Tristan Crama on hand to head home.

Brentford's new signing was withdrawn in the 76th minute, but appears to be in fine nick ahead of his fresh start with the Bees.

Eriksen was also in action for the West Londoners' B team last week, in a training ground match against Southend.

Such was the excitement around the club at the occasion, that owner Matthew Benham made a rare visit to see the Dane in action.

It's claimed by that players not involved in the match also hung around to see Eriksen in action.

In typical fashion he grabbed an assist in the 3-2 win, while fellow long-term absentee Josh Dasilva marked his own comeback trail by netting a hat-trick.
