EVERTON fans taunted David Moyes by chanting: "You're getting sacked in the morning."
And it didn't take long for the travelling support to twist the knife into their ex-manager.
Lukaku struck three times in 11 minutes to end a run of 1,139 competitive minutes without netting.
And a shellshocked Moyes could only watch on from the sidelines as the cries of abuse rained down on him.
It is worth remembering this is a man who led the Goodison Park side to fourth and fifth in the Premier League and delivered European football during his 11 years in charge.
There is also the small matter of a 2009 FA Cup final appearance.
And some Twitter users were quick to point out the fickleness of fans who enjoyed a decent period of success under the Scotsman.
One wrote: "Are Everton fans really singing you're getting sacked in the morning to David Moyes? Seriously have some respect."
Another posted: "Everton fans abusing Moyes... Why? He done a hell of a lot for them."

And a fellow user said: "Pretty tragic from Everton fans that, Moyes made you the club you are today."
And Moyes himself admitted the game was a defensive catastrophe.
He said: "I was really diasppointed, certainly the last 30 minutes or so.
"There's been a couple games where we've been right in it but as soon as we lost first goal we never looked there.
"For some reason tonight we didn't do as well as we could. We weren't in the right defensive positions."
