Former Liverpool ace Dirk Kuyt says Manchester United are under ‘enormous pressure’

Veteran Feyenoord skipper dreaming of 'another great day to remember' against the Red Devils in the Europa League

DIRK KUYT claims Manchester United are under “enormous pressure” this season as the Feyenoord skipper targets another day to remember against the Red Devils.

Jose Mourinho’s side travelled to Rotterdam on Wednesday, minus Wayne Rooney, ahead of their opening Europa League group game against the Dutch league leaders tomorrow.

And former Liverpool forward Kuyt, now captain at Feyenoord, insists all the pressure is on the English side.

Kuyt said: “I think they are under enormous pressure, because everyone wants them to win the league.

“Everyone can see what it did to the team when they lost to City at the weekend, already there is more pressure on the team, although the teams in the Premier League have difficulties in challenging the teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

“For me, the Premier League is still the toughest league in the world, so it's great to watch. Of course I try to watch Liverpool every week, and all of the teams, and for me Manchester United is a contender to win the league this season, but there are a few more.”

Kuyt was a huge fan favourite at Anfield, no doubt thanks to a stunning hat-trick and a last-minute winner against the Anfield side’s bitter rivals United during his time on Merseyside.

He recalled: “I have great memories of playing against United. We won a couple of games, I scored a hat-trick at Anfield, but I also remember a couple of games at Old Trafford, playing with Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard.

“I can remember a late goal of mine in the FA Cup, so great memories and hopefully tomorrow will be another great day to remember.

“We had a great start to the season, winning our first five games, but this is an interesting week, to play against United, a top European side, then at the weekend we play PSV Eindhoven, the champions of Holland for the past year, who also did well in the Champions League last season.

“So it will be a great week for us and we are looking forward to playing against these kind of teams and hopefully start with a good result tomorrow.”
