Manchester United leading race for West Ham wonderkid Reece Oxford after youngster stalls on new contract

MANCHESTER UNITED are taking a serious interest in West Ham wonderkid Reece Oxford after the youngster stalls on a new deal.

Oxford's current contract expires at the end of the season and the club are desperate to keep hold of the defender.

The 17-year-old has been touted to reach the very top and is predicted to make his mark with the England team in the future.

Talks have been ongoing with Oxford and it was believed the duo were close to reaching an agreement however according to , the youngster is holding off putting pen-to-paper on a new contract.

Oxford is one of the most highly-sought after youngsters in English football but Manchester United are leading the race to land him for nothing but a tribunal fee.

West Ham's worrying Premier League form alongside his lack of playing time in the league is believed to be just two reasons why Oxford is holding off on a new contract.

He attracted attention when he kept the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil at bay in the curtain raiser against Arsenal last season but has only featured in the Europa League this campaign.

West Ham will be hoping the Oxford scenario doesn't turn into the same saga Man United endured with Paul Pogba.

The midfielder was let go on a free transfer to Juventus in 2012 but re-signed for the Red Devils in a £109million deal.
