Liverpool revealed as the biggest ‘selling club’ in Europe… with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea not far behind
The Reds have recouped £379million since 2010, with Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling the big departures from Anfield
LIVERPOOL are the biggest selling club in Europe.
During the last decade, The Reds have recouped an astonishing £379million from transfer fees, putting them well ahead of their Premier League rivals.
Luis Suarez' £65million move to Barcelona, and Raheem Sterling's £49million switch to Manchester City boosted the Liverpool coffers somewhat.
And of course who can forget Fernando Torres' acrimonious move to Chelsea in 2011 - for £50million
Spurs are the closest rivals selling £317million worth of talent, with Chelsea the third team on the British list securing £307million.
Europe's biggest sellers
1. Liverpool - £379million
2. Valencia - £372million
3. Juventus - £356million
4. Benfica - £355million
5. Porto - £328million
Others
7. Spurs - £317million
10. Chelsea - £307million
In the period 2010-2016, Liverpool are the flogging kings of Europe, with Valencia in second spot with £372million, and Juventus in third with £356million.
The research was conducted by Swiss-based CIES Football Laboratory, an independent study centre based in Switzerland who "specialise in the statistical analysis of football".
For all intents and purposes, when thinking of a "selling club" it brings with it negativity of a mid-to-lower league club who fail to hold onto their best players.
