THERE’S a reason Chelsea opted to re-sign David Luiz.

The popular defender was a fan favourite during his first Stamford Bridge spell, and things haven’t changed following his £30million return from Paris Saint-Germain.

Luiz played a key role in helping Chelsea overturn a 2-0 deficit to knock Leicester out of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, and ran straight over to the travelling supporters at the final whistle.

As the Blues faithful rushed to the front of the stands to congratulate him, the Brazilian whipped off his shirt and purposefully handed it to one gobsmacked fan, despite a number of children reaching out to grab it.

Luiz has now revealed he recognised the supporter from his first stint in London, who was just a ‘little boy’ at the time.

The now-adult fan constantly grabbed Luiz’s attention by running to Chelsea’s team hotel to congratulate him after matches, and the Brazilian felt inspired to pay respect back.

Posting a picture of the moment on , Luiz wrote: “Great comeback lads! But I really want to say thank you, for this little boy in the pic! First time I saw him, he was running from the stadium until my hotel to say hello to me 5 years ago, and many other times until my home!

“He always was so respectful with me and many times he just want to say ‘congrats for the game and good night’, so last week after the game against Liverpool I was totally in shock, when I arrived at the hotel, I saw one guy running screaming my name and telling me to wait, and when I saw the ex-little boy, now so big, making the same action just to say to me, ‘we support you and the team, good night David'.

“I just said thanks God, to give me this job and opportunities to meet this little boy, now a big guy! So, in Leicester the beautiful action was not my action to give him the shirt, the beautiful action was from him, to be there supporting us like always!

“True Blue! Thanks bro! God bless you and your family #thebeautifulgame.”
