Lukaku also upset Chelsea and its fans late last year for an interview he did with Sky Italia, where he claimed he was unhappy.

Things haven't picked up since for the 28-year-old and he has previously stated his desire to return to Italy some point again in his career.

And according to , Milan could offer Lukaku an easy escape out of Chelsea this summer.

However, the fee Chelsea could command, as well as Lukaku's mega £325,000-a-week wages, could prove to be a problem.

Any possible deal would need Chelsea to cut their losses on the forward and lower the asking price.

And Milan may ask Chelsea to pay a portion of Lukaku's wages.

One way Milan could afford Lukaku is if their talks with Bahrain-based investment manager Investcorp go smoothly.

The report states that although Milan's current US-based owners may be unwilling to sanction the move of Lukaku, Middle East investors could look to add a big signing under the right structure.

Lukaku's form in the Premier League is particularly concerning.

The Belgium international hasn't scored a league goal since December 29, 2021, against Brighton.
