Arsenal were £35million shy in bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer
Borussia Dortmund demanded £87m for Gabonese star and Gunners ended up buying Lucas Perez for £17.1m instead
ARSENAL failed to land Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer transfer window because they wouldn't meet Borussia Dortmund's £87million asking price, it is alleged.
Aubameyang has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Gunners - along with a host of other leading European clubs.
And according to Spanish news outlet El Confidencial Arsene Wenger made an official attempt to sign him this summer.
The Gunners apparently offered £52m and negotiations broke down.
Arsenal turned to instead to Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez and signed him for £17.1m.
Aubameyang stayed at Dortmund with his advisors insisting only Real Madrid could really realistically tempt him away from the Bundesliga.
However, they didn't move for the Gabonese star.
Sources close to the player say Aubameyang wanted a move to Spain. His mother is a native of the small town of Avila and "he grew very close to his grandparents and so knows Spanish".Arsenal, meanwhile, face Basle in the Champions League on Wednesday.Watch ALL the goals from the Premier League before anyone else for FREE plus all the latest news, fixtures and results and live match commentary all on the go with the new Sun Football App –
